Longtime director of Humane Society retires
Lori Heatherington, executive director of the Humane Society of Northwest Montana, has announced that she is retiring from the organization she has served for 16 years.
Under Heatherington’s leadership, the Humane Society expanded its fundraising program, increased Adoption Center awareness and was recognized multiple times as “Best Nonprofit in the Flathead” in the Daily Inter Lake’s annual Best of the Flathead competition. During the introduction of Covid, Heatherington altered Adoption Center operations to ensure that pet adoptions continued and homeless pets were served.
“Lori has been instrumental in maintaining and growing the Humane Society nearly from its inception,”said board president Alana Weibert. “She has done a superb job during her tenure and the entire board is sorry to see her leave.”
On the occasion of her retirement, Heatherington was honored as the first person to be named the Humane Society’s Pet Hero to recognize individuals who have made a significant contribution to the welfare of pets in the Flathead Valley.
