No. 29055 KNIFE RIVER HODGSON SITE GRAVEL PIT OPERATION S ½ SECTION 23, T30N, R21W FLATHED COUNTY 4800 Wilkie Road Missoula, MT 59808 406-532-5225, fax 406-532-5200 Knife River proposes to amend its existing 100 acre “HODGSON” gravel mining permit to reduce the area to 98 acres and to extend its completion date to 2050. The permit is located north of Hodgson Road, west of LaSalle in Kalispell. The site is located 200 feet from Trumble Creek and is adjacent to T-Bend’s Dairy gravel Pit. It contains stockpiles of gravel with a pond surrounded by soil stockpiles. Approximately 130,000 cubic yards of soil and 65,000 cubic yards of overburden will be stripped and saved. Mining is active and will extract all available gravel to leave a large pond at its conclusion. The final reclamation date will now be December 2050. As much as 2 to 3 million cubic yards of sand and gravel will be removed from this site. The site is accessed off of Hodgson Road through a gate at the end of Strong Lane. The pit would be operated from 7 AM to 7 PM Monday through Saturday. Mining and hauling may include the use of crushers, dozers, loaders, scrapers, haul trucks, fuel trucks, seeders, road watering and other equipment typical of heavy construction.
