Citizens’ Climate Lobby holds candidate event

| October 14, 2022 12:00 AM

Flathead Valley citizens can prepare to vote in the midterm elections and learn about candidate climate positions during an event sponsored by the Flathead Valley chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Backslope Brewing in Columbia Falls.

This “second'' Earth Day draws attention to the importance of the midterm elections, emphasizing how conservation-minded voters can make an impact by electing climate-forward candidates, according to a press release.

“Our goal for Earth Day: Election Edition is educating about environmental concerns, climate-forward solutions, and especially the positions of our Montanan candidates, so voters can cast an informed vote on November 8,” said Angie Winter, co-leader of the Flathead Valley chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby.

Dr. Annie Bukacek, John Repke, Monica Tranel, John Lamb and Ryan Zinke have been invited to attend to mix with voters who come out to support this event. Forward Montana will be assisting the public with voter registration, and several other organizations will discuss climate solutions they are promoting.

“Democracy relies on the active participation of all voters,” Winter added. “As for climate, it’s critical to educate more members of our community about the collective impact we can have and show our political candidates that we’re ready for climate action.”

The event is free, and the public is encouraged to attend.

Hosting public events is one of many activities of CCL’s five active Montana chapters. CCL volunteer lobbyists regularly meet with the offices of Senators Tester and Daines and Rep. Rosendale about climate solutions they can support in Congress. CCL chapter members also meet with the general public to advance their climate-forward position and engage with the media through educational opinion writing. CCL supports cash-back carbon pricing. This policy lowers pollution, improves health, and saves lives by reducing emissions-induced medical problems. It boosts the economy, thanks to a monthly dividend cash-back going into Americans’ pockets, and grows millions of jobs, all while putting the nation on the path to net-zero emissions by 2050.
