Law roundup: Neighbor calls cops on recently evicted woman

| October 28, 2022 12:00 AM

Spotting a woman going through bagged up items outside a local home, a neighbor contacted the Kalispell Police Department and reported her as possibly using drugs.

The helpful resident also told dispatchers that she suspected the woman was evicted several days earlier and likely lacked permission to be on the property. She estimated that the newly homeless woman had spent roughly six hours in the yard.

Officers met up with the suspicious woman, who confirmed she was evicted. She told police she was looking through her belongings, which were bagged up and stored outside, that evening. She said she had a little time to make arrangements and had a ride elsewhere.

Dispatchers took a report of a woman who claimed that court officials were threatening her.

The owner of a Chevrolet Silverado told police a thief had stolen the rear driveline from the vehicle. He said the pickup ran fine on Friday, but wouldn’t go into gear after the weekend. He drove it to the repair shop in four wheel drive only to find out the driveline had vanished.

A father asked for law enforcement help after he took his struggling daughter into his home. The younger woman had gone homeless for months and recently given birth. But since moving in, she had begun inviting other people into the home.

Her father no longer felt safe and told police that the transients had “taken over.” The county Sheriff’s Office helped with evictions, but he had since received a letter from several of the one-time housemates demanding items back. Officers agreed to help with the letter and reconnected him with sheriff’s deputies.

Officers counseled a man who allegedly pounded on a vehicle parked in front of a store before walking off. The owner of the car took a photo of the man and shared it with investigators, who tracked the man down to a local park.

A tossed rock led to an emergency call after it struck the windshield of a vehicle and left a mark. The caller told dispatchers that she was in a parking lot waiting for a child when a boy threw a rock at her vehicle. A review of surveillance video confirmed that the boy tossed the rock, but officers deemed the subsequent damage unintentional. The woman and the boy’s mother later exchanged information.

A man wearing a blanket and “weird white tennis shoes” approached another individual and leveled allegations about a third party being a pedophile. Then he went and lay down underneath a nearby tree. The individual asked that officers speak to the man. They obliged and counseled him.
