EUREKA — Libby had the fastest boy at the Eureka triangular cross country meet Thurday, but the host Lions won the team title by a little over nine seconds.

Libby’s Rowen Sherbo won the boys race in 19 minutes, 24.24 seconds. Thompson Falls’ Cael Thilmony was next, and then Eureka’s Michael Pitman (20:13.18) was third followed by Libby’s Greysen Thompson (20:22.21). That possible four-point swing can be important: The Lions scored 32 points to Libby’s 34.

Thompson Falls’ Faith Palmer won the girls’ individual title in 23:54.34. Eureka had the only full girls team, and was led by Monroe Tornow’s third-place finish.

It was the season-opening meet for Eureka.
