The Hellgate Knights topped the Flathead Braves 7-1 in Western AA soccer on Saturday, but the game could have been closer than the score would indicate, if not for some attrition on the Flathead side.
Flathead struck first in the 23rd minute and held a 1-0 lead until Hellgate struck 15 minutes later. The Knights added another goal in the 39th minute to take a 2-1 lead into the half.
Hellgate scored five goals in the second half after several Flathead players were injured.
Still, first-year coach Alejandro Calderon was pleased with the Braves’ play.
“Great game overall,” Calderon said. “Nice to see we can compete against one of the best teams in the state.
