Visitation in Glacier National Park continued its downward trend in July as the park saw nearly 75,000 fewer visitors in the month than it did a year ago.

Overall, it was the fifth month the park has seen fewer visitors this year than in 2021.

Discounting the pandemic year of 2020, the park saw its lowest numbers in July since 2015 when 689,064 came through the gates.

The slow July has left park visitation down 8.92% from last year overall with 1,537,224 visitors so far in 2022. That’s down from 1,687,768 at this point last year.

The West Entrance saw a drop of more than 49,000 from last year’s numbers with the Going-to-the-Sun Road reservation system in effect since May 27 and a nightly construction clouse of the road since June 1.

Visits to Two Medicine, the Walton/Goat Lick area Polebridge and Camas were down a combined 44,000 while Many Glacier saw an increase of 5,000 visitors in July 2022.

Backcountry visits were also down 2,299 from that of July 2021.
