Wolfpack Theatre put hilarious spin on Greek mythology
The Greek myths are expansive, epic and legendary tales … and will be covered in their entirety by two narrators in less than two hours. Well, sort of … The Wolfpack Theatre Company at GHS will present the hilarious, historical comedy, “The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza,” Sept. 19, 20 and 21. Curtain time is 6:33 p.m. in the Wolfpack Theatre at Glacier High School.
Advanced tickets for the “Olympiaganza” are available on GoFan, Glacier’s new on-line ticketing service. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $6 for children, students and senior citizens. Any remaining tickets will also be sold at the door. To access the ticketing service go to gofan.com and search for Glacier High School. Each night of the production is listed for ticket purchase.
Told in a campy, yet educational way, “Olympiaganza” takes the audience on a journey through the well-known stories of Zeus, Pandora, Jason and the Argonauts, Hercules and a host of other Greek gods and goddesses. With help from the audience, the narrators, who may or may not have done their research, use modern day references and items to reinvent the stories of the Gods in a whole new way.
“Spoofing Greek mythology is a little risky because so many people have an affinity for it,” said the show’s director and director of the Wolfpack Theatre Company, Ivanna Fritz. “This play is about joyfully celebrating all that is Greek mythology, from its gods and monsters to the epic storylines… If you don't know the stories, that's OK because we are telling them differently anyway!”
The Wolfpack Theatre Company started the production process with tryouts in early August and, with 35 student actors playing 68 characters, the show is one of the largest productions at Glacier High School this year.
“The students have been creative risk-takers willing to share their gifts on stage,” Fritz said. “We have freshmen through seniors and I'm thankful they were all willing to take part of summer vacation to commit to the process.”
“Olympiaganza” is written by Don Zolidis, a veteran playwright who has written over 100 plays for teenagers and has been one of the most-produced playwrights in American schools. Zolidis brings his patented high-paced, zany and campy feel to many of his productions.
