Flathead sweeps dual from CMR; both teams put up big marks
Some impressive, even spectacular, early-season marks were put up Friday during a dual track and field meet that Flathead High swept from Great Falls CMR at Legends Stadium.
Bauer Hollman and Brody Thornsberry each won two events to lead the Braves in their 89-56 win; Bailey Wride won twice while the Bravettes won 13 of 17 events overall and cruised, 98-43.
Thornsberry won the 100-meter dash and the long jump for the boys, while Hollman swept the 1,600 and 3,200. Thornsberry’s winning jump was 20 feet, 6 inches, a shade under his season best.
Kasen Kastner won the 800 for Flathead, and his time of 2 minutes, 2.64 seconds is third in Class AA. The Braves’ Jacob Dolezal’s triple jump of 42-4 sits third in AA at this point, and teammate William Hollensteiner, who cleared 6-0, made it a sweep of the jumps.
Flathead also had wins from Michael Manning in the 300 hurdles, Noah Hannah in the pole vault and from both relays.
Jackson Tarver of CMR swept the 200 and 400, and his 400 time of 51.13 is best in Montana for all classes; Flathead’s Jackson Walker time of 53.11 is fourth in AA.
The most impressive mark belonged to CMR’s Anthony Okes, who unleashed a throw of 165-4.5 to win the discus. That’s best in AA by over 12 feet; it’s also a half-inch beyond what Andrew Burrows of Class A Hamilton threw on March 25.
On the girls’ side, Flathead’s Peyton Walker ran unchallenged in the 400 and still had a time of 62.43, which sits third in AA.
Wride swept the 800 and 1,600 for the Bravettes, who also saw Alivia Rinehart take the 100-meter hurdles in 16.51 — just off the qualifying standard and also best not just in AA, but all classes.
Rinehart and teammates Harlie Roth and Dylan Simons all ran top-10 times in AA in the 300 hurdles; Rinehart sits sixth, and CMR freshman Aizalyn Flaten’s time of 48.51 in No. 2 at the AA level.
Kennedy Moore matched her season-best high jump of 5-2; Kelcey Copping and Bristol Lenz split the 100 and 200 dashes; Tali Miller won the discus, Afton Wride won the triple jump and the Bravettes swept the relays. Flathead’s time of 51.50 in the short relay is unofficially the best among Western AA teams.
