Vocal supergroup performs for one night only in Whitefish

| April 13, 2023 12:00 AM

Pop and vocal jazz band The Black Market Trust will bring the sounds of great American crooners combined with the romantic gypsy fire of jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt to the O’Shaughnessy Center April 22.

The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. and is presented by the Whitefish Theatre Company.

Hailing from Los Angeles, The Black Market Trust highlights material from the Great American Songbook — ranging from Sinatra to the Beach Boys to the Beatles — and infuses it with Django’s romantic and virtuosic flavor. Add some intricate vocal harmonies and a dash of Rat Pack-style comedy, the Black Market Trust has earned a reputation as one of the premier live acts performing in music today. The show promises a fantastic night of music that melds the old-world sounds of a gypsy campfire with new-world vibes of a slick metropolitan nightclub.

The band’s all-instrumental debut studio album, “The Black Market Trust,”released in 2012, is widely regarded as a milestone in the gypsy jazz world. Since then, they have released five additional albums to critical acclaim. The band’s lead guitarist and vocalist, Jeffrey Scott Radaich, has been touted as one of the most innovative and influential American acoustic gypsy jazz guitarists today. Joining Radaich on stage is bassist and singer Brian Netzley, who together were previous members of the groundbreaking Gonzalo Bergara Quartet whose rapid rise in the jazz world was cemented by twice headlining the prestigious Django Reinhardt Festival in Samois-sur-Seine, France. Rounding out the line-up is LA-based drummer and vocalist Brandon Laws, vocalist, violin hero, and Eastern European folk music expert Nick Coventry, and sought-after, LA-based pianist Matt Politano.

Tickets are $30 for adults and $20 for students with reserved seating. Tickets may be purchased at the box office, 1 Central Ave., Whitefish, or by calling 406-862-5371. Tickets may also be purchased online at www.whitefishtheatreco.org.

This show is sponsored by JeanAnne Swope and Jim Mechem and is supported in part by a Western States Arts Federation grant.
