Libby boys win own track invite
LIBBY — Libby sprinter Mauro Vasquez-Otero won twice, teammate Cy Stevenson went big and the Loggers won the boys title at their own Libby Invitational track and field meet Saturday.
While Vasquez-Otero won the 100 and 200, Stevenson marked 51 feet, 3.5 inches to win the shot put — the No. 2 distance in that event in Class A.
Libby, also getting wins from Tristan Peterson in the high jump and Trent Ridell in the javelin, piled up 170 points. Thompson Falls was second in the six-team meet with 107.5 points, and Eureka had 90.5.
Plains’ Mason Elliott swept the hurdles races, and pushed into the top six in both events Class B with his times. Eureka’s Caleb Hutter cleared 11-7 to win the pole vault.
Eureka’s Cole Sartori won the 400 in 55.01 seconds.
The Lions won the girls meet with 131 points, while Thompson Falls edged Libby for second, 113-112.
Thompson Falls’ Ellie Baxter won the 1,600 and 3,200, setting PRs in both: her 5:43.42 ranks sixth in Class B in the 1,600; her 12:10.25 puts her third in the 3,200.
Plains’ Alexis Deming uncorked the longest discus throw in Class B while winning that event: 116-1.
Libby’s Rylee Boltz won the 400 in 1:01.87 — the fourth-best mark in Class A — and also won the high jump at 5-1. And Logger teammate Aurora Smith had a huge day. The senior won both hurdles along with winning the pole vault and the 100-meter dash. Her time in the 300s was 49.65, which is fourth in Class A.
Eureka racked up the depth points, especially in the throws, where Milynn Lucey led a pride of Lions with second-place finishes in both the shot put and discus.
Remmi Stanger cleared 5-0 for second in the high jump.
