Lillard, Glacier boys forge Crosstown split

The wind was cold, and there weren’t many upsets at Tuesday’s Crosstown track and field meet, or fast times.

While some races lacked the usual star power — the Swede Dahlberg meet looms in Butte Friday — there were some personal records at the dual, which the Glacier boys and Flathead girls won at Legends Stadium.

Glacier senior Jeff Lillard, for example, ran his best-ever 200 meters: he won in 23.15 seconds. He also won the 100, but possibly most impressively he followed up his 200 win by running the anchor leg on Glacier’s victorious long relay.

In terms of the dual scoring — five points for first, three for second and one for third in the individual races, and 5-0 for first-second in the relays — those wins were important.

Glacier’s final margin was 78-67.

Ethan Anderson also swept the hurdles for the Pack, and edged his personal-best in the 300ss down to 41.14. That pushed him to No. 4 in AA.

Anderson also ran on that long relay, which clocked a season-best 3:30.51, third in AA.

Glacier’s Henry Sellards PR’d in the shot put with a heave of 51 feet, 3.5 inches. That keeps him No. 3 in AA. Teammate Ty Olsen leapt into the top nine in AA in the triple jump, marking 41-9.25.

Flathead had some boys standouts, including Kasen Kastner: He lowered his best time in the 800 down to 2:01.21, just a stride off the AA qualifying standard and still No. 5 in AA.

The Braves’ Brody Thornsberry had a long jump of 22-2 — unofficially the best in Class AA and a half-inch off the top mark by Glendive’s Kohbe Smith.

In second in the long jump was Glacier’s Xavier Stout with a season-best 10-11.5.

Also, Flathead’s Michael Mahar joins three AA vaulters to have cleared 12-6; that’s tied for fifth in the classification.

The Flathead Bravettes cruised to a 100-44 dual win, sweeping the girls relays and getting a PR from Alivia Rinehart in the 100 hurdles. Her time of 16.02 is slightly better than the 16.05 she ran in Missoula Saturday.

Madelaine Jellison’s 1,600 time of 5:45.59 puts into the top 10 in AA. Same with Flathead teammate Lilli Rumsey Eash and her time of 11:55.72 in the 3,200.

For Glacier, Kai Johnson won the shot and discus; her shot put mark of 39-3 was just short of her career best.

Bailey Gable didn’t run the 300 hurdles for the Pack, but Flathead's Zoey Bortz did -- and won in 49.60, the eighth-best time in AA.
