A Lakers no-hit, one-hit Chargers

While the AA Kalispell Lakers were tying up hitters on Griffin Field, the A Lakers’ were doing them one better over on Archie Roe.

Luke Nikunen and Hunter Fann combined on a no-hitter as the Lakers beat the Great Falls Chargers 9-1, capping a doubleheader sweep Saturday.

Nikunen threw five innings, walking four and striking out three. Fann walked four in his two innings of work, but nobody scored. He fanned two.

Bryce Buckmaster doubled and he and Trever Cockerill each drove in two runs for the Lakers, who allowed the Chargers just one hit on the day.

That was against Jackson Heino in the first game: He threw six innings, while walking four. He struck out seven in the Lakers’ season-opening, 10-1 win.

Nikunen tripled and drove in three runs to back Heino. Buckmaster also had a triple and drove in three runs, and he and Nikunen combined to score five times.

The A Lakers continue their season today with a doubleheader against the Havre Northstars, at noon at Archie Roe.
