Eureka girls, Libby boys win Lincoln County meet
LIBBY — Eureka’s girls scored big in the throws and jumps, and the Lions won their side of the annual Lincoln County track and field meet Thursday at Logger Stadium.
Eureka was led by Zoey Hanson, who won the shot put and discus and in fact the Lions scored all four places in both those events.
The Lions also won both relays and got wins from Remmi Stanger in the high jump, Kara Stanger in the javelin and Karli Campbell in the pole vault. Eureka scored 943 points to 52 for Libby and 19 for Troy.
Libby’s Aurora Smith swept the hurdles and won the 100-meter dash. Teammate Rylee Boltz won the 200 and 400 and was second in the 100.
Boltz won the 400 in 60.46 seconds, the fifth-best time in Class A. Smith’s winning time of 50.46 in the 300s wasn’t her best this spring, but good enough for her third win in five starts.
Meanwhile Eureka’’s Haidyn Guckenberg was second in the 300s in 51.03, a personal record that also sits No. 9 in Class B.
Bergen Fortner also won the long and triple jumps for the Loggers. Troy got a majority of points from Jaylee Meyers, who won the 1,600 and 3,200.
Libby sophomore Kasen Day won the 100 and 200 and teammate Tristan Anderson won the long jump and high jump as the Loggers cruised to the boys team title.
The Loggers’ Cy Stevenson marked 50-9.75 to win the shot put by a mile, and Libby scored 88 points to 65 for Eureka and 21 for Troy.
Jacob Buckingham swept the hurdles to lead Eureka. Another top mark belonged to the Lions’ Caleb Utter, who cleared 12-7 to win the pole vault. That’s third in Class B. The Lions also won the long relay
Troy’s Nolan Morris swept the 800 and 1,600, and his 800 time of 2:05.80 ranks No. 6 in Class B.
