Auditions held for ‘Lost in Yonkers’
The Whitefish Theatre Co. is holding auditions for its first mainstage production of the 2023-2024 season.
Auditions for “Lost In Yonkers” will take place on Aug. 20 and 21 at 7 p.m. at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish. Arrive early to fill out an audition application and a waiver form. Enter at the north side of the building near WTC’s parking lot and conference room.
“Lost In Yonkers” is a nostalgic memory play that takes us back to the summer of 1942: World War II is on and flat-broke Eddie Kurnitz leaves his sons Jay and Arty with their grandmother while he takes to the road as a salesman to pay off his debts. The two boys are left to contend with an ill-tempered Grandma, the sweet but damaged Aunt Bella, and small-time hoodlum Uncle Louie in a strange new world called Yonkers. Winner of four Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, this coming-of-age masterpiece is filled with Neil Simon’s gifted touch of witty dialogue and heartfelt emotion as the young boys learn lessons about love, responsibility, and the importance of family that will carry them into adulthood.
David Ackroyd is the director of this production. The adult cast consists of two men, ages 30s to 40s, two females, ages 30 and older, and one female, ages 60 and older. There are two roles for younger male actors, grades 8-12. No preparation is required for the audition.
Rehearsals will begin Aug. 24. Rehearsals will be held Monday through Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. There are seven performances over two weekends on Oct. 12-15 and 19-21.
