Mark Ahner scored two pins and Kaleb Shine won twice, but the Glacier Wolfpack boys still dropped their opening wrestling duals to the Great Falls schools Saturday.

The Glacier girls had better results in an unscored jamboree with both schools.

Ahner, wrestling at 170 pounds, pinned his two opponents in a total of 5 minutes, 3 seconds. Shine, a standout at 152, scored a 6-4 decision over Great Falls High’s Jace Koma with a late reversal, then scored a technical fall against CMR’s Teagan Dixon.

The Great Falls High Bison won 54-15 and CMR prevailed 50-21.

Aiden Sweat scored a pin at 103 against CMR; Shannon Hughes (160) won one of his two matches.

“It was great to get out and compete for the first time,” Glacier coach Ross Dankers said. “Many of our crew did a great job battling for the first time in a varsity spot. Still need to work on our conditioning a bit, but saw some bright spots.

“Kaleb Shine looked really good knocking off a tough Great Falls wrestler (Koma) and dominating CMR. We were pretty banged up this week, but hopefully get a few guys back for the Butte Duals.”

On the girls’ side, Kylie Shine won both her matches by pin to lead a promising start.

Several of our our new wrestlers walked away with their first win for the program,” Glacier assistant Mitch Zander said. “Kirilynn Johnson and Abbie McClatchey, and Kylie Shine with back-to-back wins. And of course two of our more veteran athletes, Temree Payne-Taylor and Brooke Yeadon, picked up where they left off last year.”

Yeadon and McClatchey split two matches while Mikaela Julius wrestled three times and won once.
