Girls hoops: Wildkats win big over Hamilton

HAMILTON — Hope McAtee scored 25 points and snared nine rebounds, and Taryn Borgen added 20 points as Columbia Falls opened its girls basketball season with a 65-48 win over Hamilton Tuesday.

Madalyn Nelson had 15 points to lead Hamilton, which led 15-10 after one quarter.

“We started slow, but from midway through the first quarter on we played pretty good basketball,” Wildkats coach Cary Finberg said. “Really happy with the way the girls came out and played.”

FRENCHTOWN — Frenchtown sophomore Mason Quinn scored 16 points as they defeated Whitefish.

Madison Kaufman dropped in 15 for the Broncs.

Whitefish was led by 10 points from Jude Perry. Bailey Smith added 7 for the Bulldogs, who trailed 38-9 at the half.

BONNERS FERRY, Idaho — Bonners Ferry freshman Taren Bateman hit three 3-pointers and scored 25 points Saturday, helping the Badgers beat Stillwater Christian.

Katherine Paolini scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Cougars, who trailed 33-18 at halftime. Belle Swartz chipped in 11.
