CMR girls drop Glacier in opener

The Glacier Wolfpack dropped their season opener at home against Great Falls CMR in 47-44 girls basketball Friday.

Senior Noah Fincher led the Wolfpack with 10 points in the defeat, Junior Cazzland Rankosky added nine points before fouling out late in the fourth quarter.

“I thought the effort was there 100 percent of the time,” said Glacier head coach Amanda Cram,”We know they are an aggressive team, they are going to hustle, it’s early season, so I am glad for their effort to execute.”

The Wolfpack jumped in front early, outscoring the Rustlers 11-5 in the opening frame of the game which saw a fast tempo, and a lot of mistakes by both teams.

In the second quarter Glacier had an answer for every run CMR made, and a buzzer-beating three from Fincher gave the Wolfpack a 24-20 lead heading into the break.

In the second half both teams ramped up the intensity as the Rustlers would take the lead 30-29 — their first lead since it was 2-0.

Down the stretch both teams started knocking down clutch shots. A pair of threes from ShyRae Yellow Owl — she scored a game-high 11 points off the bench — gave CMR a lead that they wouldn't surrender in the final minutes. 

A last-second three from Reese Ramey was off the mark, and the Wolfpack fell to 0-1 on the season.

“I feel like in the last year and a half that we have been in a lot of close games,” Cram said. “We are still learning to turn that corner, but what I saw in that team tonight is that they are hungry for it.”

Glacier looks to get win number one on Saturday against Great Falls High.
