Auditions open for WTC’s production of ‘Misery’

| December 14, 2023 12:00 AM

Whitefish Theatre Company open auditions this week for the stage play adaptation of Stephen King’s chilling bestseller, “Misery.”

Life becomes stranger than fiction when Paul Sheldon, an acclaimed romance novelist, wakes up incapacitated in the secluded home of his “No. 1 fan,” Annie Wilkes, after she rescues him from a wintery car crash. While Paul is on the mend, Annie insists she must proofread his latest book but becomes blind with rage when it is revealed he has killed off her favorite character, Misery Chastain. As Annie forces the injured Paul to write a new Misery novel, he realizes the unhinged Annie has no intention of letting him leave, prompting a game of cat-and-mouse as he tries to outsmart her and plan his escape. This spine-tingling stage adaptation will grip audiences until the very end. This production is recommended for mature audiences.

Kim Krueger is the director of this production. The cast is composed of one woman and two men ages 30 and up. No experience or preparation is necessary to audition. Pages from the script will be provided. Scripts are also available to review beforehand at public libraries in the valley.

Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. Dec.18 and 19 at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish. Participants are asked to arrive early and enter through the north side of the building to fill out an audition application and waiver form and review the script.

Rehearsals begin in early January with performances scheduled Feb. 23, 24, 25 and 29 in addition to March 1 and 2.
