Law roundup: Giving the gift of fire safety
This holiday season, a tenant woke up to find the gift of a fire extinguisher in their mailbox. They first checked with their landlord, who denied being behind the unusual, though possibly life-saving, present and then tried the Kalispell Police Department. The tenant told officers they were unsure of what to do with the gift of an extinguisher and a little concerned “as it seems odd.”
The staff of a local emergency room asked the police for help with a drunk man in the triage area. Officers helped move the man along.
Someone wanted a man banned from their property owing to his allegedly disorderly conduct over the weekend. They asked that the ban last one month.
Authorities intervened when a mother and son began arguing over the departure of his girlfriend. Officers counseled both.
A bank employee asked authorities if they could do anything about the man on the street corner with the megaphone.
The general manager of an area business asked that officers remove a man — at the man’s request. When asked to leave, he allegedly told the manager to phone the Kalispell Police. When dispatchers asked for what prompted the disagreement, the manager said the man was caught trying to go into the women’s restroom. “Women’s bathrooms are nicer,” the man could be heard arguing in the background.
Another employee sought the ban of a man who allegedly refused to leave the premises. Although apparently not acting disorderly, the man still needed to go. Officers alerted him to the ban and gave him a ride to the library.
Officers were asked to determine whether or not a vandal had taken down a flagpole. The person behind the report suspected someone took a grinder to the base of the pole. Upon further review, it appeared as though the wind was the culprit.
A caller reported a man with a megaphone distracting motorists. The caller claimed the man was yelling at people stopped at the traffic light and even approached one vehicle, making it swerve. When pressed, the caller admitted he did not see the man step off the sidewalk and onto the street.
Officers moved along a man in a camper parked in the lot of a local business. Employees suspected the man was camping out as he had been in the spot for most of the afternoon. He was also parked horizontally across vertical parking spots.
