Donald Wayne Barta, 69

| February 3, 2023 12:00 AM

Don was born to Leland and Ila Barta, who preceded him in death. He joined brother Steven and later welcomed brother James and sister Laura. Don spent his early years in Lewistown, Montana before the family moved to Columbia Falls.

Don graduated Columbia Falls High School in 1972 where he lettered in wrestling and joined his brother Steven as an Eagle Scout, something he was very proud of. He took a job at the Aluminum Plant which led to his career as an ironworker. After an accident at work in Seattle dad eventually made his way back to the Flathead and to a job at School District 6 which he eventually retired from with over 22 years of service. While working at the school Don met Kim Fleming. After a few years of working together he invited her to a floating trip for her birthday. I'm not sure Kim knew what she was in for when she said yes but they made it together for over 25 years. Dad was always there to help anyone with any project they had. Don loved Montana and all it had to offer. Chester hunting trips with friends, camping, outdoor concerts, especially the Blues. His biggest passion was whitewater rafting with family and friends. He was lucky enough to enjoy many trips. Lots of memories were made on rivers such as the Salmon, Snake, Lochsa, and our own Middle Fork. Dad spoke of these trips and his friends frequently. Don began his eternal "DOWN RIVER" in the early morning of Jan. 26, 2023, at home with his wife by his side.

Don leaves behind his wife of almost 26 years, Kim. Son John and wife Jessica and their sons Taylor (wife Mickaela, daughter Sawyer) and Orion; daughter Amanda and her son Bridger, daughter Brooke; son Dustin and wife Michelle and their son Jayden; daughter Autumn and husband Mike and sons Peyton, Carson; brother Steven and wife Merla; brother Jim and wife Faye; sister Laura and husband Shane; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a celebration of life June 24, 2023, at 1 p.m., at the Kalispell Eagles FOE 234. Thank you to everyone who helped with Don's care.
