P.E.O. taking scholarship applications

The local P.E.O. Chapter D, Whitefish is seeking students to apply for the 2023 $1,000 P.E.O. local scholarship.

Senior high school women living in Northwest Montana who demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, extracurricular activities and community service; and who plan to pursue full or part-time post-secondary education in the United States are eligible. Interested seniors should contact Chapter D's scholarship representative, Katherine Bacharach, at PEOchapterD.MT@gmail.com. The deadline is April 30, 2023.

P.E.O. Chapter D, Whitefish is also seeking students to apply for the 2024 P.E.O. $2,500 STAR scholarship. High school junior women living in Northwest Montana who demonstrate outstanding leadership, academic achievement, involvement in extracurricular activities and community service; and who plan to pursue full or part-time post-secondary education in the United States or Canada are eligible. Women junior students interested in applying for the 2024 STAR scholarship should send an email to Taylor Greenup at PEOchapterD.MT@gmail.com no later than July 1, 2023.

Additional STAR scholarship eligibility requirements include a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0; applicant is 20 years of age or under at the end of the calendar year; applicant is a citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States or Canada; applicant plans to attend college immediately after high school; and applicant is recommended by and receives the vote of the local P.E.O. chapter.

My Glacier Village receives challenge grant

My Glacier Village, a local nonprofit that provides Flathead area seniors with support and services that enables seniors to continue to age in their homes, has been notified by the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation that their organization has been chosen for a challenge grant.

The challenge part of this grant means that the Dennis and Phyliss Washington Foundation will match any funds the organization can raise (up to the amount of the challenge award) by March 31.

My Glacier Village is celebrating its 21st year of the National Village Network during February and in light of this milestone, the organization is asking community supporters to help them reach their challenge grant goal by making a donation of $21 or more prior to March 31.

Each donation to the challenge grant goal made by the deadline will be matched by the Dennis and Phyliss Washington Foundation.

Whitefish Community Foundation hosts donor stewardship workshop

Whitefish Community Foundation will host the workshop “Creating a Stewardship Culture,” presented by Chany Ockert, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Feb. 16 Grouse Mountain Lodge in Whitefish.

This workshop is intended for nonprofit organizations interested in building relationships with the individual and corporate donors that keep them giving. The workshop is part of the foundation’s Nonprofit Development Partnership program and is offered free of charge to participants.

“Creating a Stewardship Culture” will be an interactive workshop designed to help attendees establish a stewardship culture within the organizations they serve. Joining Ockert will be local donors who will share their unique perspectives and experiences on the topic.

Ockert is a certified fundraising executive with more than 15 years of experience, specializing in adapting fundraising best practices and lessons for nonprofit organizations. She is based in the Flathead Valley and works with nonprofits across the country.

The Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation is a sponsor of NpDP, partnering with Whitefish Community Foundation to bring quality nonprofit training to local nonprofits free of charge.
