Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theatre holds auditions for ‘SHREK Jr.’

| February 16, 2023 12:00 AM

The Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theatre is holding auditions for students in grades five through 12 on Tuesday, Feb. 21, for the cast of the hilarious musical “SHREK Jr.”.

Once upon a time, in a faraway swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek. One day, Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he's handed a task — if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona’s love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but a fairytale wouldn't be complete without a few twists and turns along the way.

Auditions will be held at the Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theatre Afterschool Arts Center, located at 833 Grand Ave, from 4:30-6 p.m. for fifth through seventh grades and 6-8 p.m. for eighth through 12th grades.

The production calls for a large cast — over 30 speaking parts and a medium chorus of Fairy Tale Characters and various Kingdom people. It costs nothing to audition and there is a small $50 participation fee for those cast in the show. Prepare a 30-second monologue or short selection from another play or book, and plan to learn and sing something for at the audition.

Materials will be available at the theater for those who don’t have experience. Those auditioning should wear comfortable shoes they can move in, as there will be moving and dancing around the stage.

Help is also needed with technical parts — building sets, props, costumes, lights and sound. To sign-up and for more information, email bpct@bigforksummerplayhouse.com or visit www.bigforksummerplayhouse.com.
