Jesse Edwin 'Ed' Sonny Blasdel, 93

Jesse Edwin "Ed" Sonny Blasdel was born June 11, 1929, to Jesse O and Ethel Blasdel of Somers. Ed passed away Monday, Feb. 20, 2023, at the Montana Veterans Home.

Ed spent all of his youth on the family farm in Somers on North Somers Road. Ed married Arta Mower. They had seven children and later divorced. In 1975, Ed married Alice Emborg and had one son, and later divorced. In 1997, Ed married Virginia Fraser and they were married until her death in 2017.

Ed was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951 and served 21 months in the Korean theater. During his service, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, one bronze star, Combat Infantry Badge, Japan Occupation Medal, and United Nations Service Medal.

After being discharged in 1953 Ed returned to the Flathead Valley and worked in the agricultural and livestock industry for most of his life.

Ed is preceded in death by both of his parents, four sisters, and one grandson. He is survived by sons, Randy, Michael, Brett and Mark; four daughters, Dorene, Kristn, Celia, Susan; and one brother, Donny. Also survived by 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

There will be a celebration of life on Friday, March 3, at 10:30 a.m. at the Columbia Mortuary in Columbia Falls. Interment with military honors will be at 2 p.m. at Bethel Cemetery on North Somers Road.
