Oredigger men outscore Argos for Frontier title
GREAT FALLS — Asa Williams scored 22 points, one of seven Montana Tech players to reach double figures, and the Orediggers downed Providence 103-95 in the Frontier Conference men’s basketball championship Tuesday.
Caleb Bellach added 15 points for the Diggers, who came in as the top seed but had their hands full with the Great Falls-anchored Argonauts. At halftime Tech led 62-55.
The Argonauts got as close as 72-70 on a Kenny Curtis jumper with 14:10 left in the game, then closed to 82-81 on Davien Harris-Williams’ steal and pull-up 3-pointer, then a free throw by Eric Miller.
Miller’s 3-pointer with 7:44 left started a 10-2 Oredigger surge; Bridger Larson’s layup with 5:54 left pushed the gap back to 92-83. Camdyn Larance’s layup with 2:42 remaining made it 100-90.
Marcus Stephens led Providence with 22; Harris-Williams added 21 and Curtis 20. Sam Vining chipped in 14 points and Jake Olsen finished with 10 for the Argos.
Larson added 14 points and Hayden Diekhans and Keeley Bake had 12 each for Tech, which shot 62 percent for the game. Larance had 11 points and Michael Ure scored 10.
