‘The Very Un-Merry Adventures of Robin Hood’

| January 5, 2023 12:00 AM

Robin Hood and his Merry Men charge toward a rescue mission like no other in the Flathead High School Theatre’s production of “The Very UnMerry Adventures of Robin Hood” at 6:27 p.m. Jan. 10 and Jan. 12 in the David M. Hashley Theater at Flathead High School.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children, students and senior citizens; tickets are available at the FHS Main Office and Photo Video Plus, with any remaining tickets sold at the door.

“The Very Un-Merry Adventures of Robin Hood,” written by Patrick Greene and Jason Pizzarello, is based on the iconic tale of “Robin Hood.” This irreverent comedy recounts the legend of Robin Hood and his Merry Men with some modern twists and turns from the original text. Instead of helpless maidens in need of rescue, Robin and his men find themselves in some bizarre situations in order to save the Sherwood Forest itself.

“Sherwood Forest is the playground of Robin Hood and his Merry Men and the Sheriff of Nottingham has plans to chop down all the trees to develop it into condominiums,” said director, Wendy Putzler. “The Acting 3 class selected this play because they liked how the author took a traditional story and gave it a nontraditional twist with fun and silliness.”

With a funny cast of characters, a fast-paced plot and a campy form of buffoonery, this delightful one-act comedy will entertain the entire family.

“I hope that the audience enjoys the production. It has a lot of laughs, and believes in the power of camaraderie,” said Putzler. “We can all do this together with a little help from our friends.”

This production of “The Very UnMerry Adventures of Robin Hood” is presented by the Acting 3 Class at Flathead High School. In Acting 3, students practice a variety of theater skills and begin to explore these skills in theater direction and design. At the end of the semester, the students explore the process of bringing a script to life through a full length production.

“Students in Acting 3 IB spend much of their focus on developing solo theater pieces. Students study a theater theorist and create a solo performance based on his or her work. In contrast, touring a show to elementary schools provides the practice for process and ensemble work for the students along with the opportunity to provide younger students with the chance to see live theater,” said Putzler. “These students include some of our most dedicated theater students. Often they are leaders in the FHS Theatre program and have several years of theater experience. Many plan to continue studying theater after they graduate from high school.”

The cast of “The Very UnMerry Adventures of Robin Hood” includes: Isabelle Bennett, Jax Stebbins-Han, Connor Adcox, Ian Lawson-Sanderlin, Ali Putzler, Adina Lockwood, Adisen Haag, Sophie Hebert, Bethany Nairn, Evelyn Smith and Ryan Tiet.

Behind the scenes, the technical crew includes: Kara Ort, Olive Lyngholm, Grant Westover, Michael Palmer, Bethany Armstrong, Shannon Shae, Meagan Lindsay, Axel Jones, Ayana Kinsey, Samara Hackley, Zoe Jacobson and Sam Randall.
