WTC announces auditions for double-feature
The Whitefish Theatre Co. is holding auditions for two family friendly, young actor productions, one-act plays that will be shown as a double feature, with the “The Velveteen Rabbit” and “Bedtime Stories (As Told By Our Dad) (Who Messed Them Up).”
Auditions for both shows will take place at 7 p.m. on Jan. 8 and Jan. 9, at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish. People should arrive early to fill out an audition application, fill out a waiver form and review the script. Enter at the north side of the building near WTC’s parking lot and conference room.
Adapted from the classic 1922 book by Margery Williams, “The Velveteen Rabbit” is a heartwarming story about the transformative power of love.
One Christmas morning, a shy stuffed bunny enters the world of a young boy’s nursery. Initially ignored in favor of more modern toys, she waits patiently to be noticed, wondering if she will ever be loved like the others. When the wise old Skin Horse reveals the majesty and mystery of what it means to become Real, the Velveteen Rabbit begins an odyssey of the heart to make a lasting connection with her boy that will endure for always.
The fun continues with “Bedtime Stories (As Told By Our Dad) (Who Messed Them Up).” It's Dad's turn to tell his three rambunctious kids their bedtime stories but when he gets fuzzy on the details, the classics get creative: a prince with a snoring problem spices up “The Princess and The Pea,” “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” cries dinosaur instead, and “Rumpelstiltskin” helps turn all that pesky gold into straw. You may think you know your fairy tales, but not the way Dad tells them in this fun spin on well-loved classics.
The cast is composed of actors of all ages. There are roles for children in grades 2 and up and roles for older actors in grades 7 and up. For several adult roles, men and women of all ages are encouraged to audition. Family groups are also welcome to audition. No experience is necessary to audition and no preparation is required. Pages from the script will be provided.
Emily Pollard is the director for this production. Rehearsals will begin Jan. 16 and will be held Monday through Friday at the O’Shaughnessy Center from 6 p.m. to 8 or 9 p.m. There are seven performances on Feb. 23 to Feb. 26 and March 3 to March 5.
