Stoney "Rocky" Gene Shipp, 55

| July 12, 2023 12:00 AM

Stoney "Rocky" Gene Shipp, 55, died after a long battle of health issues.

He was born in Kalispell, and later grew up west of Whitefish where he spent his childhood fishing, hunting and exploring the woods with family and friends.

He would later move to Broadus, Montana where he worked for the city and had two children.

His heart belonged in the woods and he would later move from there to Sundance, Wyoming to work in logging while his children finished High School.

You can take the boy out of Montana but you cannot take Montana out of the boy.

He ultimately moved back to Montana where he could work doing what he loved most, moving logs around with heavy equipment and live in the woods, his happy place.

He is survived by his two children and their spouses. Five grandchildren, his fiance, his father (stepmother), two sisters, a brother, many nieces and nephews.

A memorial is not planned at this time and family asks that those who knew and cared about Stoney to memorialize him in your own way, but of course, somewhere in the woods.
