Artist inspired by landscapes featured at Phillips Gallery

| July 13, 2023 12:00 AM

Artist Karrie Baldwin looks to the landscapes at home in Montana and around the world as she creates her impressionist oil paintings.

She is the featured artist for an exhibition titled Following the Light at Phillips Gallery.

Baldwin received a Bachelor of Fine Art in painting and drawing from the University of Utah. She grew up in the West and has always been attracted to the beauty of her surroundings and is deeply connected to the landscape. She travels and participates in Plein Air events and juried exhibitions around the world. Her art has taken her to France, Costa Rica, and across the U.S. from Upstate New York to California. Her impressionist oil paintings focus on light, contrast, and color, they are sensitive, yet express the energy and sense of place.

Baldwin works and resides in Thompson Falls.

Baldwin is inspired to paint the beauty and diversity of this amazing landscape. She strives to capture the color of the sunset or the reflection and shimmer on the water and the feeling she has as she stands in the light absorbing its warmth and color. It is all about capturing the light for her.

She says the process of painting creates a connection to the memory of that place. She is interested in the idea that our emotions and history connect us to a place. As she paints, she experiences the light and emotion, finding shapes, color, and patterns. She gives this energy to each painting with hope that others might experience this as well.

The Following the Light exhibit takes place throughout the month of July and will remain on display until July 29 at Phillips Gallery located inside the Kalispell Center Mall.
