Law roundup: Parking wars claim motorist’s tire

| July 21, 2023 12:00 AM

A confrontation over a parking spot prompted a woman to vent — the air from the other driver’s tire, that is. The victim told the Kalispell Police Department that the woman grew angry when they both angled for the same spot. Afterward, he went into the store to try and defuse the situation. When he came out, he could hear air leaking from a tire. He suspected the woman of stabbing it.

Officers cited a pet owner for failing to vaccinate their animal against rabies.

Callers reported homeless people camping near a public park.

A caller reported the theft of two tires from a tire shop.

Finding a homeless man charging his phone on the premises, a property manager swiped the mobile device and called police. Officers collected the phone and returned it to the homeless man, warning him he was banned from the property.

Police wrangled a free range dog back into its yard, but noted the fence was broken, meaning the pooch was likely to get out again. Officers decided to come back when the owners were home and cite them.

Officers impounded a bicycle left leaning up against a building.

A caller reported spotting an odd-looking person behind the wheel of a red Jeep. The motorist appeared “messed up or out of it,” according to the caller, who said the Jeep had been parked in the same location for a while. Officers met up with the driver, who was sleeping and otherwise fine.

Officers were summoned back to the same red Jeep two hours later after another caller phoned in worried that the motorist had overdosed or died. As evidence, the caller reported that the driver had been inside the car with the windows barely cracked. When officers arrived this time, the driver was outside of the Jeep and walking around. As before, he was fine.

Authorities responded to a report of multiple “meth heads” screaming and throwing things at each other outside of an apartment building. Arriving officers reported finding a bunch of heavily intoxicated people, but they had quieted down.

Thinking hackers had taken control of his phone, a man walked into the Police Department hoping to talk with an officer.

Officers stickered a camper left parked on the street near a busy intersection for three weeks. The person reporting the vehicle said its presence created a hazard for motorists turning right.

A man called the police claiming to be held hostage. Officers checked in with the location where his call originated and learned that the people there were aware of his desire to leave. They told officers he was barred from leaving.
