Twins edge A Lakers 3-1 Friday at West A

POLSON — Kellen Kroger and Maddox Muller combined on a three-hitter, and the Glacier Twins edged the Kalispell Lakers 3-1 Friday at the West A District Legion tournament.

Glacier (26-8) advanced to Saturday’s winner’s bracket semifinal against Mission Valley, which beat Missoula 17-3 in Friday’s late game..

The Lakers (38-17) fell into loser-out play against the Bitterroot Bucs. The Bucs ousted the Bitterroot Red Sox Friday, 11-2.

In Friday’s first game, the Cranbrook Bandits eliminated the Libby Loggers 11-1.

Twins 3, Lakers 1

Mikey Glass hit a solo home run with two out in the third inning to put Glacier up 1-0.

Two runs in the fifth inning — AC Chilson doubled and scored on an error on Muller’s ground ball, and Muller scored on Kroger’s double — gave the Twins a 3-0 lead, and that was enough.

The Lakers’ Hunter Glidden singled and scored on a two-out Twins error in the sixth inning, cutting the gap to 3-1. In the sixth Cale Brink drew a two-out walk for Kalispell, which is when Muller came on to get the last out, via a popup to second.

Luke Nikunen threw for Kalispell, and allowed four hits and two earned runs. He struck out four.

Kroger, meanwhile, allowed three hits and three walks, and fanned seven.

Bucs 11, Red Sox 2

Brodiie Hinsdale drove in three runs with a second-inning double and five Bucs — Hinsdale, Mason Arlington, Roy Combs, Troy Larson and Trapper Oster — all scored twice.

The Red Sox, centered in Hamilton, outhit the Florence-based Bucs 6-5, but committed five errors and saw their pitchers allow six walks. Just five of the Bucs’ runs were earned.

Larson threw a complete game for the Bucs (32-10), allowing six hits, two walks and one earned run — the Red Sox got both of their runs in the first inning. Larson struck out eight.

Hinsdale’s double came in the midst of a five-run second inning, and Larson followed with an RBI double of his own.

Bridger Huxtable had two hits including a first-inning RBI single for the Red Sox, who ended up 16-16.

Bandits 11, Loggers 1

Michael Clark had two hits and four RBIs for Cranbrook (21-23), who outhit the Loggers (4-34) 10-2 and ended the game with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Bandits’ pitcher Edyn Barber threw a one-hitter and struck out 12 Loggers, with no walks. Leadoff hitter Ryan White had three hits and scored twice, and Owen Rilkoff had two hits and scored three times.

Noah Gillespie drove in Libby’s lone run with a second-inning RBI groundout. It brought in Chase Rayome, who got the team’s lone hit, a double.

Mariners 17, Mavs 3

Hunter Emerson and Aiden Gfroerer paced a 15-hit Mission Valley attack with three hits and three runs scored apiece.

Cymian Kauley hit a three-run home run and Dawson DuMont added a two-run shot during the Mariners’ nine-run second inning, after which they led 14-0.

Espn Fisher and Cole Wadsworth also drove in two runs and Kauley scored three runs for the Mariners. Stellan Ridley had an RBI double for the Mavericks.
