Broadway stars and hopefuls to perform showstopping hits
They’ve starred in some of the most well-known Broadway productions in history, including “Rent,” “Anything Goes,” “The Lion King” and “Color Purple,” and for one week they’ll perform some of their greatest showstopping hits on the Whitefish stage.
The Alpine Theatre Project presents the Broadway Veterans Concert July 30 and the Broadway Hopefuls Concert runs July 31 through Aug. 2 and the Whitefish Performing Arts Center, 127 Spokane Ave. in Whitefish.
The Broadway Veterans Concert will feature 10 stars performing hits from shows such as “& Juliet,” “42nd Street,” “Hadestown,” “In the Heights” and “The Prom.” The Broadway Hopefuls Concert will showcase the talent of 60 students in ATP’s intensive Broadway Summer Training Camp alongside the veterans who mentored them in musical theater performance.
“These artists have 36 Broadway credits among them under their belts,” ATP Artistic Director, Betsi Morrison said. “They are some of the most accomplished performers in the musical theater world. We’re thrilled to share their incredible talent with the community and their professional experience with these 60 students.”
The Broadway veterans include: Robert Creighton, Virginia Woodruff, LaTrisa Harper, Angela Wildflower, Dustin Brayley, Meredith Patterson, Eric Krop, Tracy McDowell, Ross Bridgeman, Becky Stout, Morrison and Luke Walrath.
The program continues ATP’s mission “to bring world-class arts education to the community,” a mission that is now in peril, according to ATP. ATP, which was founded in 2004, recently announced it must raise $150,000 by Aug. 31 to keep its doors open.
“Professional nonprofit theaters across the country are in danger — even the most successful,” Morrison said. “If communities want this level of entertainment and education, it’s going to take pitching in to weather this storm.”
