Putting a spotlight on the cello — the Portland Cello Project comes to Kalispell
The Wachholz College Center presents an intimate evening of eclectic music performed by the Portland Cello Project.
The cello quartet will take audiences on a journey of enchanting melodies and powerful harmonies, seamlessly bridging the musical stylings of past and present from Beethoven to Lizzo during their August performance.
The Portland Cello Project has a “revolving cast of cellists” performing, recording and educating around the nation under the artistic direction of Douglas Jenkins, according to their bio at www.portlandcelloproject.com. Well established by 2009, the group was performing “anywhere and everywhere,” from punk rock clubs and street parties to symphony halls and private events — bringing the cello into the spotlight.
The Portland Cello Project has worked with notable cellists in the Pacific Northwest such as Skip vonKuske, Diane Chaplin, Nancy Ives, Gideon Freudmann and Kevin Jackson. The group has also collaborated with a variety of artists across genres such as The Dandy Warhols, Garrison Keillor, Ural Thomas, Corin Tucker of Sleater-Kinney, Jolie Holland and Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary.
Tickets for the Aug. 3 performance are on sale now and range in price from $25 to $35. Processing fees may apply. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the show starting at 7:30 p.m.
