DuMont HRs seal Mariners sweep of Loggers

LIBBY — Wyatt Wadsworth had a big 2-run double in the first game and Dawson DuMont homered twice in the second as the Mission Valley Mariners swept a Western A doubleheader from Libby Saturday.

Wadsworth’s double broke a 1-1 tie in the second inning in what turned out to be a 4-2 win. The Pirates allowed just two Libby hits, though they also issued nine walks.

In the nightcap DuMont hit a 2-run homer in the fifth inning and a 3-run shot in the seventh of a 19-10 victory.

DuMont had six runs batted in and the Mariners’ improved to 8-2. His first home came not long after Libby closed to 6-5 on Rusty Gillespie’s RBI single.

The Loggers (1-15) had the bats going — Aiden Rose and Caleb Moeller each had two hits and two RBIs, and as a team Libby drew 12 walks — but their pitching (11 walks allowed) and defense (10 errors, leading to 13 unearned runs) didn’t hold up.

Cole Wadsworth, who had three hits in the first game, scored four times in the nightcap and drove in two for Mission Valley. Espn Fisher scored three runs in the second game.
