Newman-Dodd powers Missoula past Riders
MISSOULA — Jayson Newman-Dodd homered twice and drove in four runs Wednesday, and the Missoula Paddleheads took a 7-3 Pioneer League baseball victory from the Glacier Range Riders.
Newman-Dodd, who missed Tuesday’s game with groin tightness, hit a 3-run home run in the first inning and a solo shot in the third that put the PaddleHeads up 4-0. That was enough runs, though the gap grew to 7-0 in the fifth.
Glacier (11-7) suffered its third straight loss, and second to Missoula. The Range Riders got one run on Dean Miller’s RBI double to left in the sixth.
In the eighth the Range Riders strung together two walks, an RBI single by Miller and scored again when Jackson Raper’s grounder to second was misplayed for an error.
Missoula brought in reliever Alfredo Villa and he induced a double play to end that threat, then worked around Mason Dinesen’s double in the night.
The teams battled again Thursday, before heading to Kalispell to start another 3-game set beginning Friday at 7:05 p.m.
