A Lakers win Sunday, fall Saturday at Cloninger
HELENA — Bryce Quinnell’s bases-loaded walk capped a 6-run, fifth-inning rally by the Kalispell A Lakers that pushed them past Idaho Prime 16U Sunday, 8-5 at the Cloninger Classic.
Errors and walks helped the Lakers, who lost to the Helena Reps 12-2 late Friday, finish 3-2 at the tournament and improve to 29-10 on the season.
They trailed 5-0 before coming alive in the fifth, starting with Brecken Walcheck’s leadoff double. Two singles, four walks and a catcher’s interference helped the Lakers catch and then surpass the rival from Pocatello.
A key hit was Hunter Fann’s bases-loaded single with one out: it got past the right fielder, letting three runs in and cutting the gap to 5-4. Fann scored the tying run when Luke Nikunen’s grounder was misplayed for an error.
Nikunen added an RBI single in Kalispell’s 2-run sixth inning.
Pitcher Liam Benson started and got the win for the Lakers, allowing six hits, three walks and three earned runs in five innings. He fanned one. Cale Brink got the last six outs for the save.

On Friday, the Helena Reps outhit the Lakers 11-2 and put the game away with a 7-run fourth inning.
Cale Brink and Trever Cockerill had the hits for the Lakers, and Cockerill had an RBI. Easton Capser and Hunter Glidden scored.
Braden Capser gave up four earned runs in two innings on the mound, and Bryce Buckmaster was touched up for seven runs though just one was earned.
