State A boys: Wildcats bow out of tourney

BOZEMAN — Two Eastern A teams advanced to loser-out semifinals at the State A tournament Saturday: Billings Central and Glendive.

Glendive toppled Columbia Falls Friday by building on a 26-point second quarter and 19 points from Micheal Murphy. The Wildcats finished the season 17-7.

Billings Central outlasted Hamilton 45-43 despite the Broncs’ big second quarter.

Glendive 62, Columbia Falls 49

The Red Devils outscored the Wildcats 26-5 in the second quarter, erasing a seven-point deficit and providing a comfortable cushion for a 62-49 win.

Levi Eaton added 15 points for Glendive, including four rebounds and two steals.

Columbia Falls’ Jace Hill scored 21 points, including six treys, and Mark Robison and Cody Schweikert added six each.

Billings Central 45, Hamilton 43

Hamilton outscored Billings Central 20-9 in the second quarter, but unlike Glendive in the earlier game, did not win. Instead, the Rams outscored the Broncs 22-14 in the second half and Kyler Northrop’s putback with seconds left completed the scoring.

Northrop led Central with 15 points and Jayden Sanchez added eight.

Hamilton’s Canaan Magness scored a game-high 17 points.
