HELENA — Ella Farrell hit a first-inning homer, then completed a two-hit shutout Thursday, leading Glacier over Missoula Big Sky 7-0 at the State AA softball tournament.

Catcher Cazz Rankosky added a two-run homer for the Wolfpack (17-2), which advanced to a Friday winner’s bracket game with Missoula Sentinel (15-6), at 1 p.m.

In other action Thursday, Great Falls beat Flathead 12-2 in six innings.

Rankosky’s shot made it 5-0, Glacier, in the fifth inning; Farrell gave herself all the runs she needed with a two-run homer in the first that made it 3-0.

Farrell allowed four walks along with the two hits, and struck out 11 Eagles.

“Ella was dominant in the circle,” Glacier coach Abby Snipes said. “To come out in the state tournament against a team we’ve already played twice and hold them to two hits is impressive.

“Our hitters also backed her up with some huge hits.”

Rankosky added an RBI single in the seventh, when the Wolfpack scored two unearned runs. Kenadie Goudette came in on a passed ball in the first inning, ahead of Farrell’s homer; she scored twice.

Big Sky was coming off a 15-5 first-round win over Belgrade in which the Eagles — getting a three-run homer from Delaney Laird — put up 10 runs in the first inning.

Sentinel won twice Friday, beating Bozeman 10-5 and Billings Senior 17-3. Against Senior, Emma Ries went 5-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs and Morgan Olson hit two home runs.

The Spartans narrowly lost both its regular-season games with the Pack, 15-14 and 8-7.
