Briefs: Bozeman sweeps AA soccer titles

BOZEMAN — The Bozeman Hawks doubled up on soccer titles, winning the State AA girls and boys championships Tuesday at Van Winkle Stadium.

The games were rescheduled from Saturday because of winter weather.

The girls won first, defeating Missoula Hellgate 2-0. Maya Bossenbrook scored both goals for the Hawks, the first off a cross from Macey Primrose.

It was Bozeman’s first girls championship since 2016, and ninth overall. The Hawks were state runners up in 2021 and 2017.

Then the boys took the pitch and beat Billings West 1-0 on Bryce Lenneman’s goal off a deflection in the 29th minute.

It was Hawks’ first boys title since 2018 and fourth overall. They were runners up in 2019-20.


Lady Griz hoops faces St. Martin’s

MISSOULA — The Montana women’s basketball team, which is one week out from its regular-season opener against Gonzaga, will host Saint Martin’s at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in Dahlberg Arena in its lone exhibition game of the preseason.

Fans are invited to attend a free screening of “Native Ball: Legacy of a Trailblazer,” a documentary about Lady Griz alumn Malia Keep before the game at the University Center Theater., The 30-minute film will start at 6 p.m. with a panel discussion to follow.

 The Lady Griz went 14-16 last season, and with four starters back are picked to finish third in the Big Sky under third-year coach Brian Holsinger. Three-time all-Big Sky pick Carmen Gfeller leads the way.,

The NCAA Division II Saints went 10-16 a year ago.
