Creation of a Memory features youth guest artist

Creation of a Memory, a concert featuring guest artist, 9-year-old Ziao Chen of Polson and local violinist Wai Mizutani, is scheduled Nov. 10 at the Wachholz College Center in Kalispell.

The generations unite to perform pieces that played an influential part throughout Mizutani’s career.

Born in Qingdao, China, Chen’s family moved to the U.S. in 2015 when he was more than a year old. The family made the move to Polson in 2018. In the winter of 2021, Chen heard Mizutani play for the first time and became enamored with the stringed instrument. In January 2022, Chen began to study the violin, becoming Mizutani’s student. Since then, he’s learned more than 500 pieces such as major concertos by Paganini, Tchaikovsky and Sibelius, to name a few, according to concert manager Alaura Scherrer.

Creation of a Memory is the 10th concert in the Music of Legends tribute series and begins at 7 p.m. 

Ticket prices are $27.50 for adults and $20 for seniors, which includes service fees. Children 10 and under, military and Flathead Valley Community College students are free with IDs. Tickets may be purchased online at wachholzcollegecenter.org.
