Volleyball: Western teams falter at State
BOZEMAN — All four Western teams competing at the All-Class State Volleyball tournament at Breeden Field House lost their first-round games Thursday, leaving all them in the loser’s bracket Friday.
Glacier (AA), Polson (A) and Eureka (B) all lost in straight sets while Whitefish (A) took Billings Central to five sets before falling.
Polson has a 10 a.m. match with Lockwood and Whitefish will take on Glendive at noon.
Glacier has a 10 a.m. match with Missoula Sentinel, the same time Eureka faces Deer Lodge in loser out action.
Bozeman def. Glacier 3-0
Sarah Downs and Ella Farrell had 10 kills each, but it wasn’t enough on a day in which the Eastern AA teams swept all four first-round matches from the West.
Haven Speer had 25 assists, six digs and two aces; Maddie Davis had nine digs and two aces for the Pack.

The Bulldogs fought back from two sets down with twin 25-23 wins in sets three and four, then fell just short in the fifth, 15-11, to the two-time State A champion Rams.
Brooke Zetooney had 14 kills and three blocks; Bailey Smith added 10 kills and another three blocks. Kaydence Blackwell checked in with 13 assists, 15 digs and two aces for Whitefish.
Kamryn Reinker had 22 kills for Central.
