| October 4, 2023 12:00 AM

Officers headed to 12th Avenue after a caller expressed concerns about a couple in a black Honda Accord. Though the information had come to the caller second-hand, they said it appeared as though the male driver was screaming at a woman in the passenger seat for a while. Meeting with the couple, officers learned that the car was new to them and it was suffering from an overheating problem. The pair had pulled over to let it cool down, but they were still running pretty hot themselves given the lemon of a vehicle. The frustration owed to the situation, they explained. Officers noted that the couple had cooled off by the time they arrived.

Authorities responded to a false alarm on Nucleus Avenue.

Officers aided in the capture of a possible Australian shepherd mix in a playground area on Seventh Street. The red and white female dog, which was underweight and boasting a glitter collar, was taken to the county animal shelter.

A resident contacted the police after receiving a call from law enforcement in Washington state, who had told him that someone was using their old license plates in that jurisdiction. The resident told officers they sold a vehicle several years ago and left the license plates on it. The buyer apparently had tossed the outdated plates in Washington.

The manager of a storage unit facility asked police to investigate a break-in at the U.S. 2 storage company. The manager had learned that one of the company’s clients found someone had slipped a new lock onto their unit. When the manager cut it off and they gained entry, they saw that a thief had ransacked their stored belongings. The unit was left trashed, the manager said.

A Franlou Park Lane resident phoned in a barking dog, describing it as an ongoing issue. Arriving officers heard no barking.

The owner of a camper parked near 12th Avenue let authorities know it might be there a few days. The vehicle he usually uses to tow the camper was recently wrecked. He declined an offer by the police to arrange for a tow.

Officers let a woman on Ninth Street know about an outstanding warrant.

Authorities responded to a Ninth Street grocery store for a report of a woman who allegedly stole sandwiches and then took off on foot. She was described as wearing black leggings and a blue shirt.

A resident concerned about his female roommate’s ex phoned police after hearing shuffling and possibly spotting someone outside. He described his roommate as going through a difficult custody dispute and had been told by her parents to be vigilant in regards to her ex-partner. He asked that officers check the area.
