Glacier holds off Bravettes

Though the Bravettes looked like the better team for a lot of the night, Glacier surged back to win the Crosstown volleyball battle 18-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-17 in Western AA play on Tuesday at the Flathead High gym.
After dropping the first set 25-18, the Wolfpack started off the second 4-0, but Flathead kept pushing, tying the score twice before taking a 14-12 lead after two Emma Eve blocks.
A block by Leila Major and a kill by Haven Speer got Glacier up 17-16, but the Bravettes would tie the score twice before the match point. Major had 13 kills, four blocks and Speer had 29 assists.
Flathead got a 16-9 lead in the first set off kills by Anna Bain and Kendall Kratofil, and a block and kill from Sienna Sterck, who ended up with 15 kills. The Braevttes would lead by as much as eight points in that frame.
In the third, Glacier was more aggressive, going up 12-3 and 19-10. Flathead got kills from Sterck, Eve and Olive Lyngholm and got as close as 16-10, but the Wolfpack held on to win 25-18.
Eve, who ended up with 3.5 blocks, got two consecutive blocks to help put the Bravettes up 4-1 early in the fourth. Ella Farrell, Sarah Downs and Natalie Herne helped Glacier tie it 8-8, then Major and Speer helped build a 15-11 lead. Eve’s unreturnable serve got Flathead within four, but Glacier pulled away from there.
Glacier is 13-7 overall, 9-1 in Western AA; Flathead is 6-14, and 4-6.
Glacier also won the first crosstown meeting with Flathead, a 3-0 sweep.
