Briefs: Pitching boot camp; Mohl homers for Griz

Prospective baseball pitchers age 11-18 in the area are encouraged to join the Flathead Valley 1-Pitch Warrior Boot Camp, an every-Sunday camp that begins Oct. 29 and ends Dec. 10.

Ryan Malmin, head coach of the AA American Legion Kalispell Lakers, will lead campers through exercises aimed at the physical and mental preparation it takes to be successful on the mound. For more information and to register, go to www.kalispelllakers.org

Mohl homers in Griz softball sweep

MISSOULA — The Montana Grizzlies swept a Saturday doubleheader from MSU-Billings to move to 3-1 in their fall softball season.

Montana won 7-0 and 10-0, batting .386 and limiting the Yellowjackets to seven hits over 12 innings.

Of its 10 hits in the opener Montana ripped four for extra bases, including a two-run home run by Glacier High product Kynzie Mohl in the third.

Jessica Stanfield, who made just five at-bats last season after transferring from Yakima Valley College, went 3 for 3 to up her fall numbers to 11 for 15 (.733).

Montana scored six runs on just one hit in the first inning of Game 2. Grace Hardy had a two-run home run to highlight a three-run second inning, Mohl had an RBI single in the third to make it 10-0.

The game was called after the top of the fifth.

Montana wraps up its fall exhibition schedule with a doubleheader against Providence at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Grizzly Softball Field.
