Browning boys hold off C-Falls at Western A Fall Classic
FRENCHTOWN — Browning’s boys cross country team showed its championship mettle Saturday, beating a crowded Western A Fall Classic field at King Ranch Golf Course.
Jerdan Crawford ran his personal best — 16 minutes, 26.53 seconds — while finishing third and leading a 3-4-15 finish for the Indians, who scored 61 points to edge Columbia Falls, which scored 70. Fellow senior Preston Stewart (16:37.24, also a PR) was fourth and River Racine was 15th for Browning, while Jeff DeRoche was 18th and Donovan Aimsback, 21st.
The Wildcats’ top finisher was junior Oliver Kress at 16:55.71, but Kress and teammates Logan Peterson, River Blazejewski and Lucas Peterson took spots 11-14.
Whitefish was third at 103 points. Thirteen Class A teams competed, including the top three projected finishers at next week’s State A championships: Browning, Columbia Falls and Whitefish.
Mason Genovese (seventh, 16:47.5) and Simon Douglas (eighth), 16:48.7 both hit PRs for Whitefish, while Deneb Linton added a 10th-place finish for the Bulldogs.
Jack Jensen of Bigfork was fifth. Hamilton sophomore Taylor Doleac won the race in 16:16.60.
Corvallis won the girls team title with 43 points, followed by Columbia Falls (83) and Hamilton (88). Whitefish was fourth at 120.
Hamilton freshman Aleigha Child (19:14.08) won, and Laurie Davidson and Violet Jessop led a 5-7-11-17 finish for the Corvallis Blue Devils.
Columbia Falls had Ally Sempf (20:39.51), Mya Badger and Marissa Schaeffer finish 9-10-12. Badger’s time of 20:52.2 was a PR, as was Schaeffer’s (21:08.9).
Based on season bests, the Wildkats are projected as the No. 3 girls team in Class A, behind defending champion Hardin and Corvallis.
Whitefish saw Charlotte Wallace take 15th.
Browning’s Teslin Trombley ran her PR, 20:34.0, and finished eighth.
