Glacier boys lead Kalispell Invite by four strokes

The first day of the Kalispell Invitational shaped up like you thought it might, with Glacier, Missoula Sentinel and Polson bunched together in a tight boys’ team race.

With five golfers shooting from 71 to 75, Glacier fired a first-day total of 292 Wednesday at Northern Pines, good for a four-stroke advantage over Sentinel and six over Class A power Polson.

Sentinel’s Kade McDonough shot Wednesday’s best round, a 70. Glacier’s Trevor Cunnigham, Polson’s Christian Lund and Sentinel’s Colin McCarthy all had 71s.

The Spartans had four players shoot 78 or better; Polson had three shoot 74 or better.

Hamilton, led by Cole Dickemore’s 73, was fourth at 317 strokes; Flathead with fifth at 329. Dylan Morris and Korbin Eaton both shot 79s for the Braves.

Polson built a 20-stroke lead in the girls team standings Wednesday, with four girls in the top 15. Great Falls CMR is second at 382, and Hamilton is third at 399.

Ashley Maki led the Pirates with an 86, which ties her for fourth with Hannah Boyd of Great Falls High.

Bigfork’s Keni Wade and Hellgate’s Anna Stensrud both shot 78 to top the individual leaderboard by two over Glacier’s Chloe Tanner (80).

The Wolfpack (401) sits fifth in the team standings, one stroke behind Hellgate.

Whitefish is seventh and Flathead is eighth; Leia Brennan shot a 92 to lead Whitefish Wednesday, and Payzlee Boyce’s 97 leads the Bravettes.

The tournament concludes Thursday at Buffalo Hill.
