FARMINGTON, Utah — For the second time this season, Montana Grizzlies goalie Ashlyn Dvorak has been named Defensive Player of the Week by the Big Sky Conference.
Dvorak shut out Miami (Ohio) and Oregon State as Montana went 1-0-1 on the week, with a 4-0 home win over the RedHawks and a 0-0 road draw against the Beavers.
She faced 28 shots in the two matches, made eight saves and collected her first career assist against Miami.
Portland State’s Raniyah Burton, who scored three goals and had an assist in the Vikings’ road wins against UC Riverside and Cal State-Northridge, is the Big Sky’s offensive player of the week.
Among those nominated on offense were Montana’s Skyleigh Thompson.
Ogden wins Pioneer title
BILLINGS — Josh Broughton’s bases-loaded triple broke a 1-1 in the fourth inning, and the Ogden Raptors claimed their second Pioneer Baseball League championship with a 7-5 win over the Billings Mustangs Monday.
Rafael Narea added three hits and Mitchell Stone pitched into the sixth inning as Ogden closed on a hot streak similar to Billings. The Mustangs had won 19 of 22 games before losing the championship series two games to zero; Monday marked Ogden’s ninth win in 10 games and fourth straight in the postseason.
It was the Raptors’ first championship since 2017. They fell to Idaho Falls in the PLCS in 2019, and then lost in the Division rounds the last two seasons.
Down 6-1 in the sixth, the Mustangs loaded the bases and scored when Mitch Moralez was hit by a pitch. In the eighth John Michael Faile hit a solo homer for Billings and in the ninth Mikey Edie hit a two run single with one out, cutting the gap to 7-5.
Dan Kubiuk then fanned the next two Mustangs to clinch the title.
