Museum celebrates Central School’s 130th with time capsule
The Northwest Montana History Museum will commemorate Central School’s 130th anniversary with a celebration where items will be on display that will be sealed in a time capsule.
Located at 124 Second Ave. E., Central School is Kalispell’s oldest public building.
Rather than being buried at the risk of being forgotten, paved over, or stolen, the time capsule will become part of the museum’s collection with a notice attached to open it May 1, 2049.
The museum itself, which is housed inside Central School, will also celebrate its 25th anniversary with free admission, cake and live music from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., April 12. The public is also invited to bring items to contribute to the time capsule during the daylong celebration.
The museum also invites community members to write factual, one-page essays on the prompt, “What’s it like to be you?” which will also be placed in the time capsule and shared with Flathead Valley residents 25 years from now. The deadline to submit an essay is May 1, when the capsule is scheduled to be sealed. Essays can be anonymous.
