The Whitefish School District is running a levy on May 7 to fund teacher and staff salaries and meet the needs of a growing student body. The operational levy will provide support for increases in staff and salaries.

“As our district grows, we need to increase the number of teachers and provide salary increases for staff, in order to uphold the quality education that we provide,” said Dave Means, superintendent of Whitefish Schools, in a press release. “Staffing increases made possible by the levy will help support proper class size ratios and academic offerings, including core classes, career technical education and advanced placement.”

The ballot requests a permanent levy of $108,337 for the general fund. The levy’s estimated impact on a home with a tax-assessed value of $600,000 will be $5.88 yearly.

Ballots will be mailed to all active voters on April 18. They must be received by 8 p.m. on May 7, either by return mail or by dropping them off at the Whitefish School District Office, 600 East Second St.

In May, the school board also approved a permissive levy of $175,880, which does not require voter approval. The levy’s estimated impact on a $500,000 home will be an additional $7.73 annually.
