Legion: Twins 2-0 at Northwest A

ROSEBURG, Ore. — Kellen Kroger twirled a seven-hitter and helped his own cause with two runs batted in, and the Glacier Twins moved to 2-0 at the Northwest A Regional Legion tournament Thursday with a 5-3 win over Ridgeline, Utah. 

The victory puts the Twins (33-12) into the winner’s bracket semifinal against Eagle River, Alaska, scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday. The Wolves out of Alaska beat the Gallatin Valley Outlaws 13-5 earlier Thursday. 

Gallatin Valley (45-24) will face either Minico, Idaho at 2 p.m. Friday. The Idaho squad beat host Roseburg 4-3 in Thursday's late game.


Twins 5, Wolverines 3 

Kroger had an RBI single in the Twins’ two-run first inning and drove in another in the sixth with a triple.  

On the hill he worked around three walks and a hit batter, striking out four; Ridgeline scored two unearned runs on two hits and an error in the fourth, tying the game at 3-3. 

Glacier broke the tie in the bottom of the fourth: Stevyn Andrachick singled, moved up on a groundout and came around when Nolan Amerman’s grounder was misplayed for an error.

Wolves 13, Outlaws 5 

Liam Lierman hit an RBI triple in the first and Gunner Mountcastle tripled in a run in the fifth as Eagle River cruised. Lierman finished with three RBIs and Mountcastle, two. 

Mountcastle was also one of four pitchers for the Wolves, though he was removed after walking four hitters in an inning and a third.  

The Outlaws were outhit 14-5 and committed seven errors. Jaxson Iddings had two hits, including a double, for Gallatin Valley. 


Northwest AA 

Scarlets 8, Runnin’ Rebels 0 

BILLINGS — Drew McDowell threw a no-hitter for the Scarlets, walking four and striking out eight. 

Kyler Northrup led the offense with two-run singles in the fifth and sixth innings.  


Sixers 8, Mavericks 2 

The Montana/Alberta state champion Missoula Mavericks exited the tournament with a loss to Cheyenne, Wyo. at Dehler Park, and finished up 54-28. 

A six-run inning put Cheyenne in command: Hayden Swaen had a two-run double in the frame and Ethan Reisdorfer and Mason Tafoya also had RBI doubles. 

Colin Boyce’s solo home run in the second inning accounted for one of the Mavericks’ runs.
